Description:

The European Spallation Source (ESS) Active Cells Facility (Lund, Sweden) will be used to remotely handle and process target station components before shipment to an external waste disposal facility. This work package is to procure a Fire Suppression system is to put out a fire in the Active Cells facility.

Scope of work

  • Design of Fire Suppression
  • Manufacture, and delivery of equipment to site in Lund, Sweden.
  • Installation and commissioning of system

Key Requirements

  • Water mist system
  • Dry piping system
  • Manual hold-off required
  • Design to BS 8489
  • Validate using simulation or previous test results where possible

Extinguishing volume

The Active Cells is comprised of 2 cells, a processing cell and a maintenance cell. We have categorised both cells as machinery spaces.
  • Process Cell volume 12.5L x 13.8W x 13.8H (m)
  • Maintenance Cell volume 16.5L x 13.8W x 7.2H (m)
