DIT robotics report published

RACE has been listed as one the UK’s leading facilities in a new report from the Department of International Trade. The report looks at the robotic solutions that are being developed in the UK, for a variety of applications, including:

  • Surgery
  • Long term care
  • Space
  • Industry
  • Agriculture
  • Extreme environments and infrastructure
  • Urban

Within the extreme environments and infrastructure section the Robotics and AI in Nuclear (RAIN) initiative is also highlighted as a key programme. RAIN’s aim is to develop the advanced robotics and artificial intelligence that will be essential for future nuclear operation, by focusing on three key challenges:

  • Remote inspection
  • Safety and verifiability
  • Remote handling

RACE is leading the development of the remote handling challenge, with support from KUKA, the Italian Institute of Technology, and in collaboration with the Universities of Manchester and Sheffield. More information on RAIN can be found in an article in the August edition of the RACE newsletter.
